|NBCOC President Jennifer Dzvonar TBR Newspapers Person of the Year - POSTED ON - Wednesday, December 31, 2014|
Jennifer Dzvonar, above with co-owner husband William, runs Bass Electric in Port Jefferson Station.
Anyone familiar with the North Brookhaven Chamber of Commerce knows the love and dedication its president, Jennifer Dzvonar, brings to the area.
Since being elected to the role in 2012, she has transformed the chamber and doubled membership while advocating for small businesses and local shopping.
"She's one of the best presidents we've had in a long time," the chamber's first vice president, Donna Boeckel, said.
For the hard work she has put into improving the community, Dzvonar is a TBR Newspapers Person of the Year.
Dzvonar leads a push as chamber president for area residents to shop locally instead of in chain stores. Her goal is to put money into the local economy and keep it there.
"She's one of the best advocates for small businesses that I have ever met," Councilwoman Jane Bonner (C-Rocky Point) said.
Her husband of 13 years, William, said the woman is a big believer in community and that her enthusiasm can be seen in all of the events she organizes through the chamber, including ribbon cuttings for new businesses, holiday events for kids, breast cancer walks and more.
One of the biggest events the chamber holds is its annual tree lighting and Santa visit at the chamber's train car, on the southeastern corner of Routes 347 and 112. This year the group also had breakfast with Santa at the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Rocky Point.

Another new event Dzvonar organized was the Taste of Rocky Point, where businesses brought out their food samples for locals to taste, as a way of supporting the businesses and bringing the community together. "She's the hardest working woman I know," William Dzvonar said. He called the past 13 years with his wife "the happiest part of my life."
According to Legislator Sarah Anker (D-Mount Sinai), Jennifer Dzvonar has her hands in hundreds of local businesses from Port Jefferson Station to Shoreham to help them thrive.
"She works with everyone to create this unity," Anker said.
Dzvonar has done more to unite businesses than just reaching out to help them — she has also brought more people into the chamber's fold, recruiting new members and encouraging more people to participate. Her communication skills, her passion for the community and her easy-to-work-with nature have proven useful in making the chamber bigger and better. Since Dzvonar took the helm, she has also expanded the chamber's territory east, into Rocky Point.
Past chamber President Joe Savastano praised Dzvonar for all the hard work she puts in and the great job she does.
"She is a very diligent, hardworking individual who does a lot for the community," he said.
Savastano praised her for coordinating ribbon cuttings for new businesses, which gives those places a leg up by creating awareness in the community that they have opened and shows them that they have support from the chamber.
He called what she does "admirable" and said that other chamber presidents, including himself, haven't done as much in that regard.
In addition to managing the chamber, she manages a business she owns with her husband since 2008, Bass Electric in Port Jefferson Station. Her colleagues praised her for balancing those roles with the one of a family woman: When she isn't working at her electrical business or tending to the needs of the community, Dzvonar can be found at home in Port Jefferson Station playing dress-up with her daughter, 4-year-old Daphne, or soccer with her son, 8-year-old Willy.
Juggling motherhood and her duties with the chamber, Dzvonar still makes sure everything gets done.
"If you're in need and you reach out to her, she'll be there," Savastano said.
